More Than a Voice: Why I’m a Storyteller, Not an Impersonator

Whether I’m standing on a theater stage or in an intimate club, there is a specific kind of magic that happens when the lights go down. For me, that magic isn’t about wearing a costume or trying to "be" someone else. It’s about the connection found in a shared narrative.

I have been a performer since 1977, and while my journey has taken many turns, my guiding principle has remained the same: I am a storyteller, vocalist, and performer.

The Roots of the Journey: From Carousel to Today

In my shows, I often take the audience back to where it all began. I talk about the very first production I was ever in—the classic musical Carousel. I still remember the nerves and the excitement of that moment.

To honor those roots, I perform the first song I ever sang live on stage: "If I Loved You." For me, performing that song today isn't just about the notes; it’s about bridging the gap between that young performer in 1977 and the man standing before the audience today. It represents over 20 years of experience in musical theater that informs every story I tell.

Stories Behind the Legends

People often look for a label to put on what I do. I’ve heard them all: "impersonator" or "tribute artist." While I understand the shorthand, those terms have never quite fit. An impersonator is a mirror; a storyteller is a bridge.

My goal isn't to mimic a legend, but to celebrate the humanity behind the music. This is the heart of my "Story" series:

A Neil Diamond Story: I dive deep into his Brooklyn roots, the inspiration behind hits like "Sweet Caroline," and how my theater background led me to appreciate his catalog as a script for a life lived out loud.

A Jim Croce Story: I explore the grit and poetry of Croce’s songwriting, sharing the life experiences that gave us "Time in a Bottle" and "Operator."

The Heart of the Performance

After a lifetime of playing roles in scripted musicals, I’ve realized that the most powerful "character" I can play is myself—a performer sharing the stories of the artists who shaped our musical landscape.

When I’m on stage, I’m not trying to convince you that I am Neil Diamond or Jim Croce. I’m there to show you why their music matters and how it connects to my own decades-long journey. I am a singer. I am a storyteller. And I believe that every great song is just a story waiting to be told.

Catch a Show

I’m always adding new dates to the calendar. Whether it’s a night of Neil Diamond or an evening of Jim Croce, I’d love to share these stories with you.
