Over COVID I was trying to find a way to “re-brand” myself. In the past many people were kind enough to compliment me on how powerful my voice is. I was a voice major in college and I have taken lessons on and off over the years. I think my voice is probably at its best right now. I have watched as “impersonators” and “tribute artists” advertised themselves as the closest thing. Some have bragged that folks tell them they could take the place of the original if anything was to happen them. My favorite lately has been this guy that calls himself, “The best NEIL DIAMOND artist”. What the hell is that?
So I was going over the idea of “re-branding”. I said, “self”, that’s what I call myself when I’m speaking to me, “you’re not the best vocalist ever but you’re not that bad…you’re…okay”. Then it hit me. With all of these other impostenators being “the best”, I could definitely be “The Okayest”.
The World’s Okayest Vocalist show is a chance for me to show my range. It’s a celebration of musical genre’s from Broadway, country and music made famous by vocalists like Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Neil Diamond, Carol King, Olivia Newton John, BJ Thomas, Glen Campbell, Jim Croce just to name a few. It’s a real musical variety show full of stories and fun. And I get to be okay performing.
